Based on our rigorous lab tests, the LG LDF5545ST (MSRP $699.99) cleans just as well as some popular Bosch dishwashers. That's no small feat, as Bosch makes some of the best dishwashers you can buy.

Even better: We've seen the price on this LG occasionally drop below $600, which makes it cheaper than comparable Bosch Ascenta dishwashers.

What You Get

Before we get to how well it actually cleans, let’s take a look at the features available on the LDF5545ST:

Stainless steel for both the exterior door and inside the tub
48 dB noise rating—on par with the Bosch Ascenta series, as well as the noisier 300 models
Adjustable tines on the top and bottom racks
An adjustable upper rack with three different height settings
8 distinct cycles with the ability to download more
8 extra features including delay start (up to 12 hours), overnight dry, and single-rack washing

The racks themselves feel sturdier than most, and feature a sensible layout that made it easy to load and unload dishes. Our only issue was with a clunky cutlery basket that never felt snug in its moorings.

Controls are responsive and well spaced for easy reading, and the timer uses backlit LED lights that shine through pin-sized holes. When the dishwasher is off, you can barely see where the lights once glowed. An integrated handle completes the LDF5545ST's sleek, futuristic look. Overall, we found it a nice middle ground between hidden controls and a forward-facing layout.

The multi-part warranty is also fairly comprehensive: LG offers one year of full parts and service coverage, plus console and rack parts coverage for five years, parts coverage for the direct drive motor for 10 years, and lifetime parts coverage for the stainless steel door liner and tub.

How It Cleans

You can add all the bells and whistles in the world to a dishwasher, but it won’t matter unless it gets your dishes clean. And when it comes to the LDF5545ST, boy did it.

The Normal cycle cleaned everything almost flawlessly, only slipping up when it came to baked-on spinach. Spinach is typically the hardest of our test stains to remove, but even with some residue left behind, this LG did better than most other models in its price bracket.

Similarly, the 58-minute Turbo cycle had some trouble removing both spinach and milk, but completely removed all traces of redeposit—not usually the case for quick cycles.

But if you really have a big mess, choose Heavy Duty. In our tests, it removed all stains and left dishes completely dry. At about two and a half hours, it does take some time, but we can’t argue with the results.

There's no sanitize option, unfortunately, but perks like half-load washes and plenty of adjustable temperature settings make this an uncommonly versatile budget dishwasher. View Larger

Why We Love It

If you want to spend less than $600 on a dishwasher, you should check out the LG LDF5545ST. It’s as quiet as a Bosch, cleans as well as a Bosch, and has a better warranty — but it costs up to $60 less, depending on sale prices. With customer reviews echoing our praise, we think it's worth buying this new LG.
