There was no shortage of countertop-related tech at this year's Dwell on Design L.A.. From Silestone quartz to nanotech materials, it seems like everyone’s vying to replace granite in high-end kitchens and baths around the country.

But there's one thing that most of these competitors don’t have: an LED-backlit translucent gemstone surface. That’s where Majestic Gemstone comes in.

Billing itself as “a pioneer in the gemstone slab manufacturing business,” Majestic produces bright, colorful stone surfaces made from raw semi-precious gemstones including quartz, agate, and jasper. The stones are cut in to two- to three-centimeter slices and set into slabs using a specialized epoxy.

Majestic Gemstone's glowing surfaces are created using arrays of water-safe LEDs.

The resulting materials can be used for virtually anything: walls, countertops, bars, waterfalls, floors... and the list goes on. The company’s portfolio shows the materials being used in kitchens, bathrooms, and bedrooms, as well as restaurants and hotel lobbies. A total of 24 different finishes are available, including multiple varieties of quartz, agate, jasper, and even petrified wood.

The agate, amethyst, and carnelian surfaces in particular boast eye-poppingly bright colors that practically scream for attention when lit up from within.

Majestic’s professional services team can combine the material with metalwork, carpentry, and lighting fixtures to create custom looks and entire finished pieces of furniture. At the Dwell on Design booth, for example, the info desk was surrounded by a glowing ring of white quartz that caught more than a few passing eyes.

The flashy colors and psychedelic patterns certainly won’t suit everyone’s tastes, but those with a more flamboyant sense of style will find a lot to like here. The agate, amethyst, and carnelian surfaces in particular boast eye-poppingly bright colors that practically scream for attention when lit up from within.

While we can’t imagine most of these finishes making sense in our own homes, they’d be perfect for a stylish downtown bar or high-end hotel lobby—the kind of space where eye-catching interior design is everything. Or, you know, Cee Lo Green’s house.

Majestic is based in Ashdod, Israel, where all of its materials are cut and assembled to order. Pricing info isn’t available for Joe Consumer, but if you’re planning to build the kind of place where this stuff would make sense, you can ask your builder or architect to get a quote.
