Yes, this is news. Eddie Brayman, of Manteca, Calif., bought an LG dishwasher from Sears in late 2011—and then waited 14 months for a proper installation. Sears technicians never attached it to his cabinet, even after a dozen visits. The gall!
Brayman spent more than a year staring forlornly at an empty, half-installed dishwasher, washing his dishes by hand in the meantime. He finally decided to take matters into his own hands—and contacted the local news. “This is not rocket science,” Brayman said to CBS13 in Sacramento, Calif. “Just attach my dishwasher.”
But there's a happy ending to this tale. A few days after CBS13 contacted Sears asking for comment, technicians delivered a new dishwasher to Brayman's home—and installed it properly this time.
Sears is certainly at fault for not properly installing the machine, and they deserve criticism for failing to complete a standard service procedure within a reasonable amount of time. But in case you were wondering, a dishwasher can still function even if not mounted to a cabinet space. It’s not ideal, but it works. And at what point would it have been easier for Brayman to just buck up and install it himself? It’s really not that hard to drill a few screws into a counter space, and based on the CBS13 video, it looks like that was all he had to do.
