At its CES press conference, Bosch didn’t come out with a major new product announcement. Instead, it's using the trade show as a platform to remind CES attendees of exactly how much Bosch does, and how far-ranging its interests are.

“Not many people know the full depth and breadth of the Bosch portfolio,” said Dr. Werner Struth, chairman, Robert Bosch LLC. “That’s one of the reasons we came to CES.”

It might be a sensor powering an electric vehicle or a connected home platform. It could be the spark plugs in your car. For 45 minutes today, Bosch was in the spotlight to remind us they’re behind the scenes in everything from power tools to eBikes.

“It’s amazing how connected living has revolutionized virtually everything we do,” said Struth. “Being connected allows us to be a member of many, many communities.”

But Bosch did get specific about a few products. For one thing, it officially announced that it’s planning a U.S. release for the Home Connect smart home app. First revealed at IFA 2014 in Berlin, the app is an open platform that allows appliances from different manufacturers to be connected to the same network.

Bosch also took full ownership of its previously announced plan for Robert Bosch GmbH to acquire 100 percent ownership in Bosch’s home appliance business, formerly part of a joint venture with Siemens.

But the focus of Struth’s presentation was on the myriad tentacles the company has extended into so many aspects of our connected lives. The chairman noted that more than 50 percent of today’s smartphones are equipped with at least one Bosch sensor.

“Chances are that you have a Bosch sensor in your smartphone, in your home appliance, and in your vehicle," he added.
