Sub-Zero and Wolf make some of the nicest luxury kitchen appliances on the market, but there is one category they have never touched: dishwashers.

Instead of building and selling its own dishwashers, Sub Zero sells Asko dishwashers to complete its kitchen lineup. However, the Wisconsin State Journal reports that the company now wants to make dishwashers of its very own.

The new dishwasher line will be called Cove, and Sub-Zero is expanding its Fitchburg, Wisconsin-based factory to start building them. This is big news for Sub-Zero, as it will give the company a complete line of luxury kitchen appliances that are built entirely in-house.

Considering many Americans prefer to buy kitchen appliances in a matching set from the same brand, it's a smart move on Sub-Zero's part. Miele and Viking both completed their kitchen lineups in recent years by adding ranges and dishwashers, respectively.

What will happen to the company's deal with Asko?

According to the State Journal, the company purchased 33 acres of land to expand its Wolf factory in Fitchburg with a 400,000-square-foot addition that will cost $62 million. The expanded operations will allow the company to build its new dishwasher line, as well as produce more Wolf ranges, and create 300 new jobs over three years.

Yet this news also comes as a letdown for Kentucky. The State Journal notes that Sub-Zero owns a currently unused building in Richmond, Kentucky, that was supposed to become the company's dishwasher factory. However, the 2007-2009 recession delayed those plans, and a new union deal combined with tax incentives made Wisconsin a more enticing location.

A Sub-Zero executive told the newspaper that the company currently has no plans for the Kentucky location.

The other big question surrounding the new Cove line is what will happen to the company's deal with Asko. Just last year, Sub-Zero Wolf became the exclusive distributor of Asko dishwashers, washers, and dryers in the U.S. With its own dishwasher line, Sub-Zero will be competing directly with Asko.

Of course, the two companies could certainly continue their deal, especially since Sub-Zero still doesn't produce its own washers and dryers (which Asko does). Regardless, there's still plenty of time for the two appliance manufacturers to work things out.

Sub-Zero's new factory addition won't be complete until next year and Cove dishwashers won't be available until 2017.
